The MP3 format gets its name from been created under the auspicious of the moving Picture Expert Group (MPEG) for short and pronounced em –peg. Dr. Karkhcing Brander burg at the Fraunhofer institute for integrated circuits 115-A in Germany developed the coding methods thus censuring himself a listing in the digital world.
MP3 is shortened form of MPEG. But why 3? MP3 is the third compression method. As you can imagine the two methods were MP1 and MP2. But they offered less compression then MP3 so did not catch on widely.
